On February 28, 2013, Pope Benedict XVI will officially step down as acting head of the Catholic church. He is the first pop to resign in over 600 years and has done so due to diminishing health. Today, for this reason, I have decided to take on a Pope theme. The process for electing a new Pope is as follows:
1. Ballots are announced to the world.
2. The ballots are counted and bound together and burned in a special stove erected in the Sistine Chapel, with the smoke escaping through a small chimney visible from St. Peter’s Square. If the smoke burns white, it signifies the reign of a new Pope.
On February 27, 1996, Pokémon Red and Green was released, the first Pokémon media franchise as a whole. In appreciation of this, today I have dressed as Pikachu who is the most notable Pokémon of the franchise. A big thanks goes to @martyPantaloons for letting me borrow his Pikachu onesie!
February 26 is Betty Hutton’s birthday, so I have decided to take on her most notable role of Annie Oakley from Annie Get Your Gun for todays costume. A big thanks to Smiffy’s for the donation of this super cute cowgirl outfit for today’s theme. Is it just me, or could I wear these tassel gloves in winter as a cute accessory?

Is that a costume in your pants, or are you just happy to see me?

Today I have decided to take on the user-suggested theme of Lucha Libre from Charlie. Lucha Libre is more informally known as Mexican wrestling. Many of you may have been introduced to it through the film Nacho Libre. Mexican wrestling is characterised by colourful, full face masks that are used to disguise the wrestlers and if removed signify the death of that character. Please note that the stuffing of my underwear for this costume caused my mother to burst into laughter for a solid 2 mins….I hope it has the same effect for you.
February 24 is the date of the 2013 Oscars, which is why I have decided to take it on as my theme for today. Given all the amazing gowns that have walked the red carpet glory over the years, I have decided to dress in a outlandish, but definitely more iconic dress worn by Bjork in 2001, known as the Swan dress…for obviously reasons. Thanks go to my friend I’m a Scientist for letting me borrow her swan dress for this occasion that she made herself. If you would like to know how to make the Bjork swan dress, you can learn from a tutorial here.
Today my oldest friend (Emilioooo!) is having her birthday party, deep down I know she wanted it to be Golden Girls themed, but thought no-one would commit to the idea. As a birthday gift, today I have taken on a Golden Girls theme, dressing as Sophia, my favourite character. Sophia, played by Estelle Getty, was the wise-cracking mother of Dorothy (Bea Arthur) who always had the best lines. You can watch some of her best moments here. Happy Birthday darling! I tried to give you the ‘biggest gift’ – me! 😉

February 22 is George Washington Day. George Washington Day is celebrated on, you guessed it, his birthday. So I’ve decided to dress up as the US quarter coin that features Mr Washington as today’s costume. I almost had his exact profile, I’m not sure if this is something I should be proud of or not….

Today I have taken on the user suggested theme of Steve Jobs from Zoe. I was actually quite surprised with how well this one turned out. Note to anyone out there trying to get this look, it all came into place as soon as I peaked and extended my eyebrows.
February 20 is World Day of Social Justice. Social justice is an underlying principle for peaceful and prosperous coexistence within and between nations. It is a day created by the United Nations General Assembly to raise awareness and promote the principles of gender equality and the rights of indigenous peoples and migrants. For this reason I have dressed as a suffragette. Suffragettes were members of women’s suffrage (right to vote) movements in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Today I have taken on the user suggested theme of Kick Ass from Cilla. With that as my theme I have dressed up as Hit Girl – the young, smart ass vigilante who was trained by her father (played by Nick Cage) to be a costumed superhero/assassin.
