Day 360: Comedy Company

Day 360: Comedy Company

Today is my brother’s birthday – Happy Birthday Holmes! So I asked him what theme he’s like me to take on, he said either Acropolis Now or Comedy Company, and seeing as how I couldn’t find a bedazzled bra so that I could dress as Effie, I chose Comedy Company and opted for a Kylie Mole costume…so excellent!

Day 256: Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Day 256: Buffy the Vampire Slayer

On March 10 1997, Joss Whedon’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer debuted on the WB. Ever since I was a young girl, I have loved Buffy. It originally started when I was 7 and my family rented the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie with Kristy Swanson and Luke Perry. That day I watched it 5 times on repeat. Fast forward some years later and the television series made it’s way into popular culture and my loved was re-born. Today I have dressed as Buffy so that I can live out the day as another one of my childhood idols.

Day 254: Sci-Fi Convention and International Women’s Day

Day 254: Sci-Fi Convention and International Women's Day

March 8 is International Women’s Day. It is also the first day/night of Secret Garden Festival which has been themed Sci-Fi Convention. So I thought I would kill two birds with one stone and dress up as She-Ra. (I later that night WON Female best-dressed as judged by the crowds applause. One of my proudest moments!)

She-Ra: Princess of Power is the twin sister of He-Man and has incredible strength, was fast-moving and had the ability to communicate mentally. She-Ra’s primary weapon was the Sword of Protection. This sword was almost indestructible and had the ability to deflect bolts of energy, both magical and technological, as well as to project beams of energy from the stone in its center. It also allowed her to transform from Princess Adora (her alias) to She-Ra. She-Ra was a powerful woman who influenced and inspired young girls around the world, so she was a perfect fit for these two themes! Fingers crossed one day a live-action film is made so that she can be introduced to a new generation of girls.

Also, I’d like to thank Delta’s Dazzling Costumes, and especially Lisa, who searched multiple times through their stocks, mid-warehouse-move, so that she could find this costume and help 7-year-old Mary live out her dream of being She-Ra.

Day 253: Sailor Moon

Day 253: Sailor Moon

On March 7, 1992 Sailor Moon first aired in Japan. In celebration of the effect this show had on any girl growing up in the 90’s, I have decided to dress up as Sailor Moon today.

Now sing-a-long with me:

Fighting evil by moonlight
Winning love by daylight
Never running from a real fight
She is the one named Sailor Moon
She will…never turn her back on a friend
She is… always there to defend
She is…the one on whom we can depend
She is the one named Sailor…..
…. Sailor Venus
…. Sailor Mercury
…. Sailor Mars
….. Sailor Jupiter
With secret powers
All so new to her
She is the one named Sailor Moon
Fighting evil by moonlight
Winning love by daylight
With her Sailor Scouts to help fight
She is the one named Sailor Moon
She is the one named Sailor Moon
She is the one . . . Sailor Moon (Moon) (Moon) (Moon)

Day 245: Pokémon

On February 27, 1996, Pokémon Red and Green was released, the first Pokémon media franchise as a whole. In appreciation of this, today I have dressed as Pikachu who is the most notable Pokémon of the franchise. A big thanks goes to @martyPantaloons for letting me borrow his Pikachu onesie!

Day 217: Insane Answering Machine Message Day

Day 217: Insane Answering Machine Message Day

January 30 is Insane Answering Machine Message Day. As soon as I found that out, I instantly knew who I was going to dress up as: George Costanza. Why? In episode 15 of the 8th season, The Susie, George creates an answering machine message modeled on the song The Greatest American Hero so that he may screen his phone calls. For this costume, the hardest thing was trying to create his hair, so I purchased a bald cap and taped some wig hair onto it, it’s not the best, but I think it gets me there. Also, I threw in the golf ball for the costume as a reference to one of my favourite George moments where he pulls a golf ball out of a whales blowhole while pretending to be a marine biologist.
