Today is the first day of MEME week. Over the past couple of years internet memes have risen to great popularity as a way of communicating humour and parodying current events. A meme is defined as an element of a culture or behaviour that may be passed from one individual to another by nongenetic means, especially imitation. With this as my underlying theme for the week, today I have dressed as Antoine Dodson who rose to fame in 2010 when he gave an interview on a local television program outlining the events of a home intrusion and attempted rape of his sister, Kelly Dodson. The interview became an Internet sensation and resulted in an Auto-Tuned song by The Gregory Brothers that has sold thousands of copies on iTunes and appeared on the Billboard Hot 100 list. You can watch the original news story and listen to the auto-tune track here. Get ready to hide yo kids and hide yo wife, coz I’m costuming every meme out here!
March 26 is Diana Ross’ birthday, in celebration of that I have decided to dress as her. Of course if you’re going to do Diana Ross the costume comes down to the hair. Luckily I have naturally curly hair, so all I had to do to create her beautiful bouffant was take a brush to it.
The Australian Open beings today, so I thought I would take on a tennis themed day and dress as the infamous John McEnroe. Why you ask? His afro would make him the funniest tennis player to dress up as, that’s why. And yes, I know that I’m using a badminton racket, not a tennis for this costume, but the old school rackets look more like badminton ones compared to the new tennis ones these days. Please also note that this costume is brought to you almost entirely by my brothers wardrobe #siblingwin
