Challenge Over!

Happy 27th Birthday Bitch

As you know between my 26th and 27th birthday, I challenged myself to dress up in a different costume every day for a year, for fun. But what I was keeping on the down low was that for the the last 100 days of my challenge, I recorded a few seconds of video. For the last couple of days I have been putting the finishing touches on it. Enjoy!

And as for the blog, I will continue on posting costumes…just not every day. Soon I set off to Europe for a couple of weeks, so when I return I will strive to post up a costume a week to fit one of the following categories:

  1. Household material costumes – costumes made from things you can find in your home
  2. One costume multiple ways – I will take one store-bought costume and show you how it can be used to make multiple costumes
  3. Friends parties – whenever I get invited to a themed party, you’ll see what I’ve come up with here
  4. How to – step by step instructions for those bigger, more elaborate costumes

So let me know which you are most interested in via the poll and I’ll aim to split up the weeks accordingly!

Day 365: Finish

Day 365: Finish

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! So this is it. My final costume. Today completes my year-long challenge to dress in a theme, every day, for a year! (Ridiculous. What kind of weirdo does something like this?! …me, that’s who)

Today I take on the theme of ‘Finish’ to symbolise the end of the challenge, dressing as a marathon runner who is first to cross over the finish line in all of their winning glory. I could never have lived up to every costume expectation for this last day, so I thought best just to have an appropriately themed one, rather than trying to create one that was better than all the others already done.

Firstly let me thank every one of my family and friends who helped me. Thank you for taking my pictures, thank you for helping me make my costumes, thank you for letting me borrow your costumes or props or wardrobe items,  thank you for helping me brainstorm costume  ideas, thank you, thank you, thank you. It was me who decided to take on this challenge, but it was you who was forced into it by helping and supporting me. Today, it’s not just me who achieved my goal, but all of you who helped as well. Thank you for being a part of this year with me.

To Chloe from Smiffy’s, thank you so much for your generosity and support throughout this crazy challenge. You’ve been amazing. When you stumbled upon my blog, you saw a same-minded being and by helping became a part of this.

To all of you who doubted my stubbornness – I DID IT! Thank you for telling me that I wouldn’t make it a week, or a month or 3 months. It was that shame and proving you wrong that got me out of bed, on a Saturday, when I was hungover and tired to start work on a costume.

And now for you, wonderful you. You know who you are, you’re reading this right now. Thank you. Thank you for sending your messages of support, for submitting a theme idea, for voting yes in my poll, for showing your friends this crazy blog and for coming on this journey with me. You’ve been amazing and I hope you enjoyed this challenge as much as I did…And yes, I enjoyed it. As hard and as tiring as it was at times, it was above all fun. Who would have thought a challenge made in jest would have rewarded me with all of the amazing experiences in the last year? I appeared on all three major networks, countless websites and blogs, the front page of Reddit and even got my own double page spread!

What now you ask? Well for today I’m just going to bask in my glory…then I’m going to sleep. Oh sleep! I have missed you. Then, I am going to party. The Village has been kind enough to host my Theme Me Finale Party this Saturday night and you should come! Here’s three reasons why:

  1. It’s a costume party. If I’ve taught you anything this year it’s this – everything is better in costume.
  2. There is a prize for best dressed – a $100 costume voucher!
  3. Cheap drinks thanks to Stoli – $5 cocktails from 8-9pm!

As for the blog, all is not lost. Soon I will announce what will become of it. So if you’re sad that it’s over, don’t be. I won’t stop, after all I started all of this because of my love of costumes. And making 365 in that many days has not kindled that. So stay tuned for the next episode of: Crazy Bitch Costumes…

Day 364: Mary

Day 364: Mary

Today is the second last costume of my year-long daily costume challenge. When brainstorming with friends about what would be my last costume, many people thought that I should take on a Mary theme, as in just go as me. I thought that would be a HUGE cop out and a waste of my last day of costume,  so please rest assured that I will not be doing that tomorrow. But the idea of a ‘Mary’ theme interested me, so today I have done that dressing as Mary from There’s Something About Mary. I tried my best to recreate that hair style scene, but wigs are  not as malleable as one would hope, so this is the best I could come up with, but I think I got the movie poster dress spot-on.  And now I’ll leave you with this, years ago my friends and I were joking about titles for our future, non-existent autobiographies and when it came to me, it was decided a play-on-popular-culture would be best, with my autobiography title being: There’s TOO Much About Mary.

Today I have taken on the user-suggested theme of Barbie, dressing as a Barbie doll still in it’s box. Thanks go to my brothers for helping me get the box sorted in time!

Day 362: Bewitched

Day 362: Bewitched

On June 24, 2005, Bewitched was released. The film was nowhere near the amazing that was the TV series, but in honour of my childhood years spent watching the show I have taken it on as a theme, dressing as the best character – Endora – Samantha’s mother. One of my favourite aspects of her character was how she would pop up in the most strangest of places – on top of cupboards on top of staircase banisters, so I’ve tried to do some of that with the photos.

Day 361: Joss Whedon

Day 361: Joss Whedon

June 23 is Joss Whedon’s birthday. Joss is one of my favourite writer/director/creators. It all started with Buffy, The Vampire Slayer…movie, yes, there was a movie, and I loved it and it was written by Joss Whedon. Then when I got older and heard they were making it into a TV series I was ecstatic and the fandom has continued since then for the series, Angel, Firefly and of course Toy Story. Which brings me to my choice of costume today as Mr Potato Head from the film written by, yes you guessed it, Joss Whedon.

Day 360: Comedy Company

Day 360: Comedy Company

Today is my brother’s birthday – Happy Birthday Holmes! So I asked him what theme he’s like me to take on, he said either Acropolis Now or Comedy Company, and seeing as how I couldn’t find a bedazzled bra so that I could dress as Effie, I chose Comedy Company and opted for a Kylie Mole costume…so excellent!

Day 359: Lara Croft: Tomb Raider

Day 359: Lara Croft: Tomb Raider

On June 21, 2011, the film Lara Croft: Tomb Raider was released in Australia. Based on the video game, the film follows Lara Croft, played by Angelina Jolie, who battles villains to recover important and ancient artifacts. So today, I have decided to dress as Lara Croft as you see her in the film, and not the classic video game look.

Day 358: Jaws

Day 358: Jaws

On June 20, 1975, Jaws was released. The film was directed by Steven Spielberg, based on the Peter Benchley novel. The film is set in Amity Island where a giant man-eating Great White shark starts to attack beach goers, causing the Police Chief to join forces with a marine-biologist (and a professional shark hunter) in order to stop it. For this reason, today I have dressed up as a Great White shark myself.

Day 357: The Rocketeer

Day 357: The Rocketeer

On June 19, 1991, The Rocketeer premiered. The Rocketeer was a film about a young pilot who finds a prototype jetpack that allows him to fly and then becomes a masked hero. Not many people know about this film, but I remember loving it as a child and rumour has it it may be remade.
