January 9 is Balloon Ascension day. What is Balloon Ascension day you ask? Well I’ll tell you! At 10 a.m. on the morning of January 9, 1793, history was made in America when Jean Pierre Blanchard made the first aerial trip in a yellow hot air balloon. In honour of this achievement a holiday was born, and now a costume.
I’ve gone for simple with this one taking on the concept of balloons as an item of clothing – the balloon skirt if you will. I basically blew up balloons and then strung them together to make a skirt. I used elastic string to do this so that I could raise the skirt to sit in it.
