Here is a list of costumes that you can make easily with only the use of cardboard and a little imagination:

- First cut out a large Potato shape that is ¾ of your height.
- Then trace out a hole for your face and it out so that your face can fit in it snugly.
- Then draw and cut out all of the Mr Potato Head Pieces and paint them accordingly:
Nose: Orange
Hat: Black
Eyes: Black and White
Ears: Pink
Teeth: White
Moustache: Black - Then buy some velco and use this to have a designated area on the potato shape that the piece can attach onto and let the fun begin!

- Fold your cardboard how you would make a fan – folding back and forth onto each other.
- Tape or staple the ends together so that it fits around you.
- Cut two holes in the side where your hands can fit out and you can wear it.
- Cut a face hole in a big plastic bag that you will wear on your head and then tape into a meringue shape and add brown paint where the meringue would have been burned.
- Put it all together.
- Cut out a large beer shape that is 3/4 your height.
- Then trace out a hole for your face and it out so that your face can fit in it snugly.
- Using red, black and grey paint, paint all of the details of the Duff logo.

- Get a large piece of cardboard and cut out a square that is big enough for your head to be seen through to the left of the cardboard piece.
- Using blue and black paint, and magazine pictures or your own, paint all of the Facebook details as per the site.

- Roll a large piece of cardboard into a cylinder that can fit your arm.
- Paint this red and white in zig-zag pattern – this will be the crossing gate.
- Cut out two rectangles and glue or tape them in a cross shape.
- Add the words RAIL ROAD to one and CROSSING on the other.
- Tape these to a headband so that you can wear it on your head.
- Cut out two circles of cardboard and paint black and red – these will be your flashing lights.
- Take a piece of twine that is long enough to fit around your shoulder and have the ends fall to your chest and tape and end to each circle.
- Cut out a square shape with rounded edges and paint the words – STOP ON RED SIGNAL.
- Take a piece of twine that can be taped to the back of the sign and then be tied around your body.
- Put it all together and voila!
Hi! I’m so glad to see additional info about the Mr. Potato Head b/c I think I may be doing something like yours this year! I was wondering how you attach the actual costume to yourself, since I don’t see any straps or anything?
Thanks so much for doing this, and sharing your ideas. I’m terrible at costumes and this is a great resource!!!
Aw, thanks Sandi! It’s good to know I’m being helpful! the best way to wear this is really all in the hole for your head, you want it so that it’s big enough to fit over your head, but snug enough to not budge when it’s in place. As a back-up you could sticky tape some twine on the back so that it’s double secured around your neck. Hope that helps!
